Hollow Sickness — What ruined our next generation?

-Suicide problem in the children in Asia

I am a counsellor. In addition to providing counselling services to my clients, it is also very important to address suicide prevention and crisis intervention. I still remember during the days I worked in an elementary school, I had received a list of more than 80 students who had regular sessions with counsellor or psychologist.

In the first year of my career life in this school, there is a student who tried to commit suicide during school time, in front of the teacher and whole class of classmate. I will never forget the moment when I first picked up the phone from a panic teacher.

What is going on now?

When you ask high school students in China, Japan, Korea where will they go after school, I believe most of them will answer “Tutorial Class”. I grew up in a traditional Chinese culture, we were surrounded by tutorial classes. Chinese parents always mention “study hard” because they all believe that only study can provide their kids with a good path in their career.
